Nutritious and Delicious Ideas for School Lunches

Help your kids keep their energy up during the school day by making sure that they are getting all the nutrients they need to stay alert, active, and healthy. Before your little learners head out each morning, try packing them some nutritious and delicious foods for lunch!

And, don’t worry! It’s a lot easier than it sounds; just don’t be afraid to get creative when loading up their lunchboxes. In assembling a well balanced meal, try to include a little bit of all the essential food groups. Start with vegetables, grains, some protein, fruit, and a little bit of dairy. If your kids have any specific dietary restrictions, feel free to tailor fit these options to fit their needs. In the long run, they may even thank you for it!

So, are you ready to give your kids a jumpstart in the right direction? One way to keep them eating healthy is by regularly changing up their meals. Introducing them to a wide range of foods can help them become more aware of what they are putting into their bodies at each meal. If you’re not sure how to get started, here are a few easy guidelines to help make more nutritious decisions when packing your kid’s lunch –

Proteins: Instead of preparing too many meals using beef or pork, try choosing leaner proteins like chicken, turkey, fish, or even beans. And don’t forget that protein can be found in foods like nuts too! So if you’re going for the classic PB&J just try to find a type of peanut butter with a little less sugar.

Fruits & Vegetables: There is nothing better than eating these things fresh with sliced veggie sticks or cups of fruit. But, in order to get your kids their 8 servings a day, there is nothing wrong with trying things out a little differently. Try making veggie filled soups, smoothies, fruit skewers, or any thing that will get your kids looking at fruits and veggies differently.

Grains: When choosing grain based foods, try looking for whole grain options like wheat pastas, brown rice, whole wheat bread, or even wheat tortillas.

Dairy: This group includes foods like milk, cheese, and yogurt. Popular dairy based snacks include low fat cheese sticks, yogurt cups, or yogurt based drinks

But don’t feel the need to deny your kids their favorite sweet treats from time to time. When it comes to eating healthy, moderation is the key. After all, healthy eating definitely does not need to be boring.

Play More, Earn More!

Is your child looking for new ways to earn more coins on JumpStart? Search no more!

A Game Play Bonus has just been added to JumpStart! Each time your child logs into JumpStart on consecutive days, your child will receive bonus coins as incentives! This rewards your children for coming back multiple days in a row to embark on new learning adventures.

The coin amount increases depending on the amount of consecutive days that your child logs into JumpStart.

Each consecutive day your child logs in, a Daily Bonus Screen will tell them how many coins they have earned just for coming back!

For example, on the first day, your child will be awarded 5 coins. On the second day, it will increase to 10 coins. This is a great way to reward your children for learning and exploring on JumpStart.com!  With bonus coins, your kids can buy different items that will make their Jumpee unique!

What do your kids think about this new ‘coin-collecting’ method? Does it persuade them to want to play more?

Urgent Message from S.P.L.A.T.!

UPDATE: S.P.L.A.T. wants to thank all Jumpeez who participated in this mission! Because of your kids, all the voltage dragon eggs were rescued from the evil Sorcerer Tangorra and JumpStart was saved! This mission is now over.

S.P.L.A.T. has informed us that Jumpeez everywhere are doing a great job of following clues and locating missing pieces of the map to the rare dragon eggs!  Keep up the great work and you just might find the eggs and save JumpStart!

For those of you who haven’t found the first five pieces yet, S.P.L.A.T. has recently received the following intel that may make your quest a little easier:

  1. Head for the music inside DownTown’s gates. Then take a dirt path to where the next clue awaits!
  2. A mine full of treasure is the place you want to go. Jump in a cart to find what you want to know!
  3. Search JumpStart’s fastest land to solve the next clue! When you look up at the cliffs, the map piece will be in view!
  4. Near each Jumpee’s home lies a garden of flowers. If you don’t go there, Sorcerer Tangorra may just steal your power!
  5. There’s only one spot where spooks can be guests.  Check the haunted porch to discover the rest!

Be on the lookout for a new clue each day!  If you’re having trouble finding pieces of the map, talk to your friends to see what they’ve found. Or, post a comment here and see if a fellow Jumpee might be able to help!

Helpful hint: If you’re sure that your child is in the correct location and still cannot locate the map piece, clear out your web browser’s cache.  This will solve the problem of the missing map piece!
