Memorial Day Weekend Activities for the Family

Memorial Day is often referred to as the unofficial start of the summer season. After all, as the kids begin their summer break from school, there is no better time than now to spend some extra time with family and enjoy the company of the ones you love most. With summer fast approaching, now is the time to start getting your kids outside and active. Are you looking for some fun summer ideas to keep your family entertained? Be sure that you have a chance to try out some of these fun outdoor activities with your family.

Have a BBQ
Whether you live near a beach, a park, or just simply wanting to hang out in your backyard, a barbeque is a great way to enjoy time with the family. Barbequing outside allows your family to enjoy the warm weather and gives you an excuse to use the paper plates and silverware, which means less clean up for you! While you’re grilling the steaks, give the kids some Memorial Day worksheets to keep them occupied.

Head to a Local Park
Pack a picnic and bring your kids to a local park where they can run around and enjoy the summer sun. Bring a ball or Frisbee and play a game of catch with your kids to help encourage them to stay active. Playing at a local park is a great way for both you and your kids to get some great exercise and family bonding time!

Attend a Parade
Many cities across the nation have Memorial Day parades that take place and are free for the public to attend. These parades are a great way to honor the men and women in the armed forces and get the kids out of the house. Check your local newspaper or search the web to find a parade near you that you can take your whole family to.

Go on a Bike Ride
Bike rides are a fun activity that allows your family to soak in the sun and enjoy the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. Whether you’re biking along the beach, a park, or just through the neighborhood, there is always time to stop and smell the roses! No matter where you ride, biking is a great way to spend time with your family and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Go Swimming
For many cities, this weekend marks the opening of many lakes and pools for the summer! Pack some sunscreen, snacks, and water toys for a fun-filled day by the water. Swimming is great exercise for the kids and a good chance for you to bring a book and catch up on some reading. Before you head to the water, make sure to read up on our swimming safety tips and keep your kids safe at the pool!

No matter what plans you have for this long weekend, be sure to have fun and enjoy the summer weather. Let us know what you have in store for Memorial Day and be sure to check out all our Memorial Day-themed activities!
