Time Capsule

Does your child remember what he or she was like a year ago? Chances are that, other than a few easy facts (“I was shorter!”) and a handful of special occasions, 2008 is little more than a distant memory. This year, help your kids understand how much they really grow and change in a year with the time capsule craft! It’s a great way to remember 2009 and say goodbye for good to a year past and hello to the new year.

The JumpStart Team's Time Capsule

What you’ll need:

  • 1 strong, medium-sized capsule, such as a mason jar, coffee can, or wooden box
  • 1 zip-lock bag
  • Construction paper
  • Markers, stickers, and other favorite decorations
  • Optional: Shovel / trowel
  • Materials to capture the year 2009

More Petz to Arrive at JumpStart

Last week, The JumpStart Team announced the arrival of six new friends to the Petz Store in Downtown, including Venus, Sea Biscuit, and Sandy, here. The Petz Store has clued us in to the expected arrival of another group of pets, including some that will demand a double-take!  As before, we’d be thrilled to let you preview a few of them. Please meet…

Medulla, the cerebrity brain

Expected birth date: 6 January 2010
Cost: 80 JS coins
Favorite JumpStart Area: Arcade Learning Kiosks
Favorite Move: Shocking other pets with electric synapses

Given how spindly this brain looks, you might think that this pet would be out for the count if a snowflake so much as floated onto it.  Wrong!  This cerebellum is famous for being jam-packed with brainpower, more than making up for what it lacks in brawn.

Syd, the deep-diving squid

Expected birth date: 6 January 2010
Cost: 80 JS coins
Favorite JumpStart Area: Dark Corner of Speed Drome’s south bay
Favorite Move: Squirting ink on passing Jumpees

Squids sometimes get a bad rap for being a stealthy, slimy, and squishy bunch, but there is no doubt in the world about their intelligence. Friendly ol’ Syd has used his tentacles to gather himself on land to see if he could lend a suction cup by escorting you to the learning games at JumpStart.

Oliver, the icy owl

Expected birth date: 6 January 2010
Cost: 80 JS coins
Favorite JumpStart Area: Branches of the Hall of Fame Tree
Favorite Move: Giving cold congratulations to JumpStart Honorees

While Oliver is certainly a bit more mature than some of those unruly fur balls found in the Petz store, he’s eager to help you find fun adventures at JumpStart. This striking bird is young in years (days, even), but he is wise at heart and deeply loyal to his Jumpee owner.

Head on over to the Petz store to adopt one of these trendy sidekicks today!

JumpStart Jumpee Mail

While we love connecting with JumpStart parents on our blog, Facebook page, and discussion boards, it is extra exciting when we have the chance to hear from JumpStart kids directly! Today, amidst the usual office junk mail, we found quite the gem – a hand drawn note from a budding artist named Bella.

The producers gave the note a read and decided that Bella has some great ideas for JumpStart.com, which you just might see come to life soon! Take a look:

If Bella’s parents are out there, please tell her to keep an eye on the mailbox – Frankie offered to write back directly!

We love to hear from all of our customers; please keep the feedback coming. If you have a little artist of your own who prefers to communicate with pictures, feel free to send us mail anytime:

Flight Suit Auto-Change

At JumpStart.com, we know that sometimes the little things can make our game much more enjoyable for your little explorers. That’s why we’ve been adding extra features to the game, like the new flight suit auto-change at FreeFall Mountain!

As of last week, if a Jumpee arrives at FreeFall Mountain without his or her proper skydiving get-up, the auto flight suit change will kick into effect, allowing the Jumpee to suit up without even leaving the launch pad! Gone are the days where your kids would have to return to the Jumpee Creator, change into a flight suit, and travel back to FreeFall Mountain before takeoff. Just like real airports, we’re all about efficiency before launch!

Pick the style to fly

Then takeoff!

We’ll continue to make changes to the game at JumpStart.com to keep it as fun and engaging as possible for your kids. If you have any other ideas for little tweaks that might make the game easier for your little explorers, just let us know!

Like the auto-change?  Auto-share it!

Behind the Scenes: Holiday Fun at the JumpStart Office

Since we have such a creative bunch of folks here at JumpStart, we wanted to do something unique to celebrate the holidays this year. Rather than hand out dull cards or generic gifts, we thought it would be fun to give personalized gifts that could brighten each other’s desks all year long – customized lamps! Our lamp exchange was a hit and we thought you might enjoy seeing what people created.

Last week, the office was caught in a festive tornado of creativity as lamps were given to everyone, along with a randomly drawn name. Each member of the JumpStart Team was asked to design a lamp for the co-worker whose name they drew. Everyone drew upon their artistic talents or hid the lack-there-of behind loads of stickers and paint to create a masterpiece. From incredibly creative to just plain strange, all of the lamps were like nothing you could ever find in a store. Check out a few of the standout lamps:

You love lamp? Me too!

For the accounting department

Yep, those are all clothespins!

Our very own Kisha

For the Stargate Fan

Eyeballs and stripes...hmmm.

It's Mardi Gras!

New Petz Available Now!

Six new friends have been introduced to the Petz store in Downtown, including some of our most unique pets yet!  We’d love to introduce you to a few of them.

Sandy, the zesty sandwich

Born on: 22 December 2009

Cost:  80 JS coins

Favorite JumpStart Area:  Movie House Concession Stand

Favorite Move: Taunting hungry Jumpeez.

Have you ever been told not to play with food? Well, this funny pet is the one exception to the rule. He would love to play with you at JumpStart.com! Sandy may not be as furry as those cats, dogs, and other standard pets, but what he’s lacking in fur, he makes up in loyalty and laughs!

Venus, the fanged pet plant

Born on:  22 December 2009

Cost:  80 JS coins

Favorite JumpStart Area:  Shrubs above Tiki Falls

Favorite Move:  Snapping at flies.

Think a plant would make a dull pet? Think again! This energetic sprout is ready to join you on all of your adventures – flowerpot and all. With Venus bounding along by your Jumpee’s side, you are sure to be the talk of JumpStart.

Sea Biscuit, the land-dwelling seahorse

Born on: 22 December 2009

Cost:  80 JS coins

Favorite JumpStart Area:  Lighthouse beach

Favorite Move:  Swimming through half-frozen bays.

Though most seahorses insist on living in the ocean, this friendly critter has decided it would be much more fun to visit the land and see what you are up to at JumpStart. But, if you’d ever like to go for a swim, Sea Biscuit would be thrilled to return to his aquatic roots and paddle along beside you.

Head on over to the Petz store to adopt one of these stylish sidekicks today!

Preschool Games Now Available in the Arcade!

Update: The arcade now has a new quick launch screen to make playing your favorite games faster and easier than ever before!

Do you have an explorer who is itching to buy that pet bunny or dragon ride but can’t seem to rack up enough coins on the “big kid” learning games? If so, send them over to the arcade to try out Monkey Madness, Kite Delight, COW-abunga, Bunny Hop and Lucky Ducky. These games are favorites in the 3 to 5-year-old StoryLand area, but now they can be accessed straight from the MainStreet Arcade! Since they are learning games, the coin payouts are even higher than in the usual JumpStart game – which means even the smallest players can start earning their way to those furry, scaly, and slimy rewards!

Practice Numbers with the Monkeys.

Practice Letters and Memorization with the Duckies.

To play, select one of the games above from a learning kiosk in the arcade (just look for the big brains!). Choose whether you would like your child to practice ABCs or 123s and let the learning and earning begin!

Visit the Learning Kiosk in the Arcade!

Don’t be surprised if these learning kiosks disappear from the Arcade in the future!  They’re set to be relocated to the separate, learning-focused Brain Training Arcade in DownTown.  Read about the new learning center here!
